Wilderness Counseling - In Person
Sessions conducted in the healing power of the great outdoors
Service Description
According to research, Americans spend on average more than 10 hours a day looking at screens. Our increasing reliance on technology means many of us are spending even less time outdoors. From a stroll through a city park to a day spent hiking in the wilderness, exposure to nature has been linked to a variety of benefits, including lower stress, better mood, improved cognitive function and increased feelings of well-being and happiness. At Into the Wild, nature-based, or wilderness counseling is individualized therapy in a natural setting. These sessions take place outdoors instead of being confined to an office space or over video calls. In these sessions, you can expect a combination of traditional psychotherapy services as well as elements borrowed from the Japanese tradition of Shinrin-Yuko, also known as 'forest bathing', or 'absorbing the forest atmosphere'. This practice encourages individuals to live in the moment by immersing themselves in nature using their five senses — no actual bathing required! As with any virtual session, I will work alongside you in order to achieve relief in the present moment and reduce suffering overtime. Together we will establish your personal goals for therapy as well as determine outdoor settings where you feel comfortable. Outdoor, nature-based sessions can take place sitting in a quiet outdoor place or on a walking or hiking a trail. These sessions will offer you the opportunity to reconnect with your sense of self while nurturing your relationship with the great outdoors. At this time, I am offering wilderness counseling sessions in the Winter Park / Granby / Grand Lake areas
